Happiness is formed concrete

I look pretty thrilled here don't I? (I'm still smarting over having lost an entire summer's worth of blog entries, including our travels with the B. Clan and some pretty sweet haiku) If you have followed my blog for very long, you already know my utter whining about the conditions at my work. But this week, I have something to celebrate! After much begging and pleading, I finally have good news to report- we finally have a walkway to my back door where the ramp is. No longer do I have to choose: interrupt my neighbor's class or get everyone's feet wet. Yesterday it rained and rained, and none of my students were forced to walk in the wet, sloppy mud and grass. I. Am. Happy!
I am not really at liberty to say who is responsible for this kindness but know that I have thanked our benefactor profusely. At first, I believed, naively, that the work orders had been taken care of at the county level. And then I found out that the deed was taken care of by someone who actually and truly cares about this school and its students and faculty. This person really saw what I saw, that certain children should not be forced to walk in the wet grass (or fall into small holes in the ground, risking ankle injury) simply because they receive a special education service. When I found out the truth, it brought tears to my eyes (tears of joy- I was touched) but it also made me sad that this person had to spend their personal money to make it happen because they knew it wouldn't have happened otherwise. I thank this person, not just for this kindness, but for all they do for this school.
